Delhi daredevils
They had been Pre tournament Favorites all the three editions as well as CLT20 – 1. Yet they had faltered with what was a astounding team then. Now apart the Opening duo of Sehwag – Warner they lack the charisma they had earlier. Their Indian signings lack a proper balance. Once they had immense miidle order now looks ordinary despite some exiting players. Their bowling attack too lacks the characters like Nannes and Vettori and Nehra. Also absence of Gauti and DK is also looming large.
Captain
Sehwag has accepted to lead the side. He did a fairly good job in first two seasons before he relinquished it to his opening partner Gambhir. Expect him to inspire the side. However since he is fragile, in case of injury to him, DD is left with just Irfan to lead the side.
Openers
One and their only department where they look the Best by far. Sehwag and Warner their earler opening duo despite the falters previous season looks deadly. Nothing much needs to be said of both of them. Just Destruction at its Devastating best. In case one of them are unavailable Naman Ojha can very well fill up the role excellently.
Middle Orders
It looks good on paper with some exiting players yet not as it was earlier. In Ojha, Ingram, Finch and Rao they have a decent if not great middle order. Ojha as he has done for RR can both attack and accumulate and adds up as a keeper. Ingram is good player of middle overs and has to shine. In Finch they again have some one who can be devastating. Venugopal Rao is another useful bits and piece middle order bat. However their ability to rebuild in case Sehwag and Warner are lost cheaply could determine their progress and here unlike last year they don’t provide confidence.
AllRounders
In Pathan they have the best option in India. However Irfan returning from injury and having faltered to deceive earlier could be the crucial man. If he fires with both bat and ball its good news not just for Dare Devils but for Team India too and he is one guy who can get back his place in Team India with just a excellent IPL season. But that will again be a huge pressure on him. In James Hopes they have another very good allround prospect who can bat anywhere and bowl 4 over just well.. Both must be sure starters. In case Delhi lacking a proper spinner goes for a spinning all rounder instead of Hopes, Der Merwe can be the option. He has exiting batting and useful spin ability.
Wicketkeeper
Naman Ojha being a good bat and keeper is overwhelming choice with not much to back up.
Spinners
The one department where they failed to rope in is Spinners. The fact that unknown Umkut Chand is their main spinner underlines this fact. Van Der Merwe is only other option. And well Sehwag has to fill in too. Lack if quality spin will be hurting them.
Fast Bowlers
They do have a decent crop of pacers yet not as much as last time around. Morne with his latest form is likely to be first choice pacer with Umesh Yadav and Agarkar forming the other part. Morne with his height and ability to extract bounce can be handy I nany surface. How well Agarkar plays is left to himself and God. He may be somewhere between very best and very worst. Nevertheless he is likely to be crucial player. Umesh Yadav and Dinda both are decent crop of pacers and both have proved their effeciveness in IPL earlier. In Irafan Pathan again they have a full fledged pacer apart allrounder. If Hopes is added to the list u have excellent pace attack comparatively with utility players than destructive ones.
Overall Captaincy and lack of spinner along with pretty inexperienced middle order means they can at best be Underdogs and Dark Horses unlike Last time around.
Likely Starting XI
Sehwag – Warner – N.Ojha – Ingram – Finch – Rao – I.Pathan – Umkut – Agarkar – Umesh – M.Morkel
